Our Mission
Talmud Torah Toras Moshe’s excellent reputation has been built on one of its most unique
characteristics – clarity:
-
Clarity concerning the community that the Talmud Torah serves.
-
Clarity of purpose, in the goals that it sets for its students and its unwavering focus on these objectives.
-
Clarity in deep understanding and familiarity with the cultural background of its students, and the potential and unique challenges that this raises.
-
Clarity in the means and methods by which, with Hashem’s help, the children will maximizetheir potential, and acquire the experience with which to apply them.
-
Clarity and uncompromising resolve to excel in education.
The emergence of Beit Shemesh – particularly Ramat Beit Shemesh – as the leading destination for olim from the United States, Canada and Europe brought some of neighborhood’s most prominent rabbanim to realize that the city’s educational system was not fitted to accommodate the unique needs and demands of this community.
The language barrier that many ‘Anglo’ students encounter is but one, and perhaps the most all-encompassing, of the challenges that these children face. Almost no school was prepared to address this issue. In their homes, the spoken language –and the mentality– is predominantly English, while the Israeli, Hebrew-speaking world in which they are meant to be immersed is unfamiliar. Educational institutions should ideally be aware of this dichotomy of the two worlds in which they live and serve as a bridge between them. The task at hand is to create a new genre of students, who know how to behave naturally in the ‘chutznik’ world, yet feel comfortable in his Israeli identity and be an integral part of the society in which he is growing up.
Language and mentality are just the beginning. There are immense differences in the educational approaches of the typical Israeli system and those of the Anglo community. For one, the Western system of education generally places much more emphasis on the students’ emotional world; the entire approach is child-centered. In addition, olim from English speaking countries prefer that their children receive a more solid background in secular subjects in order to acquire the skills that they may require in the future.
Generally speaking, any move –even from one street to the next– can easily become a source of angst for a young child. All the more when the move in question is to a foreign country with a very different language and mentality. Such a move creates tremendous difficulties in adapting to the child’s new home. This leads to significant cultural and educational challenges.
Toras Moshe was founded to meet all of these challenges. If you would like to set up a meeting to discuss how we do this or would like a more detailed copy of our year by year analysis, we would love to hear from you.
We are committed to achieving academic excellence, tailoring a curriculum for each child (including tutoring as needed), providing a properly supervised and a safe environment, and paying close attention to each student's development, especially in the early most formidable years (Gan through 7 years old). We are partners with parents in their child's development and well being. We make sure to keep all communication lines open and work together to help each child reach their potential.
Children should be excited to go to school and often times for Olim making Aliyah and even for more seasoned Olim who are already here, this can be one of the largest obstacles to successful integration for families and most importantly for your children to live happy, fulfilling and successful lives here in Eretz Yisrael. Our tried and tested approach is designed to give your child a tremendous geshmak in learning and exemplifying middos tovos.
At Toras Moshe, we are more than a school. We are a family!
